PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Drug Name

Minipress (Prazosin)

Application

Minipress is used to treat high blood pressure or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It can also be taken for other purposes as prescribed by your doctor.

Application method

Use Minipress according to your doctor’s directions. Follow the directions on the label.

Take Minipress inside while eating or after the meal.
If you miss a Minipress dose, you should take it as soon as possible. If this occurred while taking your next dose, skip the missed one and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose at once.

The mechanism of action

Minipress is an alpha-blocker. It works by causing blood vessels and muscles around the urethra (the tube leading from the bladder) to relax. This helps to lower blood pressure and improve urinary symptoms, which is associated with an enlarged prostate (BPH).

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If this occurred while taking your next dose, skip the missed one and take the medicine the next time in the scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Keeping

Keep this medication at room temperature in a tightly closed container, away from heat and light.

Precautionary measures

DO NOT use Minipress in case:

  • you are allergic to any Minipress ingredient

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these items concern you.

Before using Minipress:
Some medicines may interact with Minipress. Tell your doctor if you have any diseases, especially if any of the following concern you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast-feed
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances
  • if you have chest pain, heart disease, narcolepsy or kidney problems
  • if you are to be operated on the eyes

Some medicines may interact with Minipress. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Diuretics (for example, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) or verapamil, because they may increase the risk of Minipress exposure
  • Beta-blockers (for example, propranolol) or phosphodiesterase inhibitors (for example, sildenafil), because their actions and the risk of their side effects may be increased for patients, receiving Minipress

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your doctor how Minipress can interact with other medications, which you are taking. Consult your doctor before you start taking, stop or change the dose of any medicine.

Side effects

Consult your doctor if any of these most common side effects remain or become frequent:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, frequent urination, headache, lack of energy, dizziness, nasal congestion, nausea, and weakness.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, shortness of breath, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), blurred vision, loss of consciousness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, depression, severe or persistent dizziness, swelling of hands or feet.
